Summit Contracting is currently seeking an Estimator / Trainee. As a trainee, you will work with leaders in the industry and learn all aspects of estimating in our industry.   

Base location: Portland, OR

Area or Region supported: Greater Portland, OR region

Main industries supported: Mechanical Insulation, Asbestos and Lead Abatement, Hazardous Waste Remediation, Fire Stopping, Noise Control, Specialized Fabrication Services, Lagging, Scaffolding, Certified Energy Assessments and Smart Sensors

The following are some of the essential duties of an Estimator / Trainee: 

  • You will be trained to perform initial specification interpretation, take-off of quantities from drawings or by field measurement.  
  • You will learn how to prepare cost estimates on assigned projects.  
  • You will also learn to coordinate the accumulation of labor & material cost data, while recording and maintaining such information for guidance in future estimating projects.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in construction management, finance, business administration or a related field 
  • A combination of at least 3 years’ field construction experience plus a high school diploma will be considered in lieu of a degree 
  • Microsoft Office Suite of products such as Word and Excel 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Basic knowledge of construction industry and estimating practices 
  • Knowledge of on-screen takeoff software such as (OST, Imagenation, BlueBeam, etc.) and scheduling software (MS Project, Suretrak, P-6, etc.) 
  • Familiarity to read and interpret drawings
  • Exhibit a spirit of cooperation & teamwork 
  • Enthusiasm and strong work ethic 
  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines required 
  • Strong organizational, verbal and written communication skills 
  • This position requires travel across a territory
